A Long Way Gone

A Long Way Gone: Memories of a Boy Soldier is really good. However, it is also really graphic. Some of the stuff that happens in it is so brutal and awful. It really makes me sad knowing that stuff really did happen in real life. But, i am glad i am reading it because it gives me a lot of new knowledge about a topic i really didn't know a lot about. I like to expand me horizons, hahaha.

Rachel,
I just finished reading this book yesterday. It is graphic, but that's the reason I loved it. Beah doesn't sugar coat what happened to him. It is good to expand your horizons. :)

I am glad he didn't sugar coat everything, because then we wouldn't have gotten the full experience of what really happened to him. I am in total aww of his courage, the things he did to survive before and after he was a soldier were so couragous. I really admire him.

Rachel,
Did you see my post on Long Way? A bit farther down on the blog. I found a few videos with Ishmael in them. The one in my post is really short but I also found one where he talks at length about his experience.

I'm thinking of using this book for Cafe Library maybe in Nov. but since you've read it maybe I should pick another one...

No, I really think we should read it for Cafe Library. It is a really good book. I want other people to read it too.
